Opened in 1982, the Hakodate North Pacific Museum exhibits the North Pacific fishing industry, which is one of Hakodate's most important industries. The permanent display area is separated into three themed zones, with panels introducing the history of fishing and displays featuring fishing nets and scale replica fishing boats. In the hands-on area, patrons can experience firsthand fishing in the rough seas of North Pacific through the museum's simulator, including full motion and video, that reenacts the wheelhouse of an independent fishing boat.
