North Pier, with its large number of cranes, acts as a major staging ground for commodities, including stone materials, forestry products and iron materials. Many cargo ships dock at the pier to load and unload cargo, as there are steel mills and storage silos in the surrounding area. The Hakodate-Aomori ferry also operates from beside the pier. The pier offers expansive views of Mount Hakodate and the city of Hokuto in the distance.
