Omori-hama Beach provides scenic vistas of the Tsugaru Straits and views as far as the Shimokita Peninsula of Aomori Prefecture on clear days. A statue of Takuboku Ishikawa, who was deeply attached to the scenery of the beach and often wrote poetry about these feelings, is located in the park along the beach. In 1885, the area was opened as a swimming beach and was widely used by city residents through the Taisho Period (1912-1926) and the Showa Period (1926-1989). In 1954, however, the beach was designated a no-swimming area for public safety reasons.
