From its resemblance of a cow lying down, Mount Hakodate is also called 「Gagyuzan,」 or literally「mountain resembling a sleeping cow.」 Although small by mountain standards at 334 meters in elevation and 9km in circumference, Mount Hakodate is a habitat home to 600 plant species and 150 bird species. With its 10 diverse walking trails and natural backdrop of plants and animals, the mountain is an ideal year-round leisure as well as education destination for both city residents and tourists alike.
