Miharashi Park was constructed on 46.1 hectares in the Meiji Period (1868-1912) by Hakodate\'s noted mercer the Iwafune family. The park was modeled after a purely Japanese-style garden, a rarity in Hokkaido, and contains countless species of both indigenous and foreign plants and shrubs. With its large recreational area and walking paths, the park has become a popular year-round destination for tourists and residents alike. Visitors can also see Siberian Squirrel and wild fowl.
