Iai Kindergarten was established in 1895 as an attached kindergarten to Iai Girls School. The kindergarten burned down in 1907, but was later rebuilt in its current form in 1913. The two-story wooden structure is located next to the Hakodate Orthodox Church in Motomachi's hilltop area, which is location to other important historical buildings. The kindergarten was designed using American Victorian Stick Style architecture, with the gentle pastel pink exterior walls and white window frames and trusses providing a unique sense of endearingness.
