

Asarizaka Avenue extends 260 meters in length from the arterial road where the Hakodate City Streetcar runs. Asarizaka Avenue extends 260 meters in length from Densha Street. The avenue received its name from the huge number of short-neck clams 「asari」 unearthed during an excavation of the shell mound. There is a literary monument on the avenue to commemorate the birthplace of famous essayist Katsuichiro Kamei. The monument contains engravings of a part of Katsuichiro Kamei's essay. With Hakodate Park and Hakodate City Museum located in the vicinity, Asarizaka Avenue is traversed by large numbers of people for both tourism and holiday outings.
