Hachimanzaka Avenue is one of the more historically famous avenues located at the base of Mount Hakodate. The avenue was named after the Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine which was later moved to Yachigashira. The straight and cobblestoned avenue represents an ideal filming location, with sweeping views of Hakodate Bay and Mashu-maru, the ferry that once operated between Hakodate and Aomori. During the wintertime the colonnade of trees is decorated in holiday lights, beautifully illuminating the Motomachi District and complementing the night view of downtown Hakodate.
