Midori-no-Shima is an 8-hectare artificial island constructed within the Port of Hakodate. The park offers views of ships in the harbor, Mount Hakodate,which is a tourist attraction, and the city's many churches. At sunset, the red bricked buildings opposite the park's southeastern observation deck offer exotic hues of color rarely seen in Japan. On weekends, many residents visit the park to jog, go for a walk, or try their luck at fishing.
