Motomachi Park was the center of the Hokkaido and Donan Region government from the Meiji Period (1868 -1912) to 1950 as it was location of the Hakodate Magistrate\\\'s Office and Hokkaido Development Commissioner. On a clear day visitors can see as far as Mt. Komagatake from the observation deck overlooking the Port of Hakodate. The park underwent improvements in 2007 and now has an outdoor stage and ramps for wheelchair access. The views and newly improved park grounds draw both residents and tourists alike.
