The Western-style red-brick Hakodate Meijikan was originally built in 1911 as the Hakodate Post Office. From its stylish designs found at the top of the exterior walls and arch-shaped windows to the woodwork of the high-ceiling and its bright and airy interior, the building remains much the same today as it was when first constructed. Today, the building houses a shopping mall for glass products and music boxes, making it a popular bay area destination for both city residents and tourists alike.
