The Waterworks Bureau Motomachi Water Distribution Plant was completed in 1889 as Japan's second modern water supply facility, while Chuku Water Supply Pond, completed in the same year and still in use today, is Japan's oldest water supply pond. The Motomachi Water Distribution Plant is open to city residents and tourists alike and has a water fountain pond, walking paths and offers views of downtown. In the springtime, visitors can enjoy the magnificent blooming cherry trees, some over 100 years old.
